Filipiniana Costume

Christoph needs to bring a solo picture in Filipiniana costume. As I was not sure if he has a photo of that kind, thus, I dressed him up in his barong tagalog costume. I bought this a year agon when he was selected to be the ring bearer of a friend of mine.

He was so relaxed and quite funny actually doing his usual antics.

Astronomy SCENEsations

This file is in the public domain because it was created by NASA. NASA copyright policy states that "NASA material is not protected by copyright unless noted."

This is for astronomy buffs!

Have you wondered what astronauts see when they float in zero-gravity in their capsule-shaped space shuttle? Or what do scientists know about the heavenly bodies?

Get a load of amazing astronomy-related facts and read on.

§  There’s a star called Epsilon Aurigae. It turns dark every 27 years because there’s a mysterious dark astronomical object which eclipses it. And that “eclipsing” happens every 27 years.

§  The Great Red Spot, the popular “blemish” on Jupiter’s vast surface, is actually a storm. That storm has been broiling on Jupiter’s surface for more than 300 years! That storm is so big that you can fit dozens of Earth-sized planets in it.

§  On Mercury, the planet in our solar system that’s closest to the sun, daytime is crazy and weird. During the day, the sun will rise, stop, then “turns” backwards – thus setting exactly where it first rose. Another fact about Mercury is that it has no atmosphere, so it cannot absorb heat from the sun. The side of Mercury that’s away from the sun is icy even if the other side facing the sun is fiery hot.

§  In our solar system, there are only two planets that rotate clockwise on their axes. They are Venus and Uranus. The rest, including the earth, rotate counterclockwise.

§  Another exciting fact about Uranus is that its poles get 42 years of nonstop sunlight then another 42 years of nonstop darkness.

§  The beautifully ringed giant planet Saturn – it floats on water! That’s because its density (mass per unit volume) is lower than that of water.

§  A neutron star, a type of star, has such an impressive density. If you scoop even a teaspoonful of the matter that makes it up, that “teaspoonful of a neutron star” will be heavier than all the people on Earth put together.

§  Recently, a star has been discovered somewhere in a constellation called Centaurus. The star has been nicknamed, “Lucy.” That star is a giant diamond!

§  Each time you look up to the skies, you actually travel in time. The light from distant galaxies and stars has taken a loooong time to get to us, like thousands or millions of years ago. That means, that “twinkling” that you see, that has happened even before the dinosaurs existed. And you only see the light now.

Art at Home without Ruining the Furniture – 3 Fun Ideas for the Children

Children of all ages love Art but ensuring that the furniture survives is a matter of planning and preparation. Make sure your children know where the plastic sheets are kept (old party tablecloths are ideal), that they understand they cannot use paint in the room with the cream carpet and that they can find the art supplies they need. Providing a special cupboard where the items can be kept enables the children to find their supplies independently.
Face Painting
The Pen Company would like to offer some ideas for Art that your children may enjoy:

Junk Modelling

Have a box full of interesting shaped boxes and other items suitable for junk modelling. Children love working with 3D shapes and this will help their imaginations flow.

Origami

Invest in an Origami book and learn together how to make a flapping swan or a boat. Learning to fold a square of paper into different shapes is creative and inventive and your children will enjoy learning how to make the models and then showing their friends.

Card Making

Make your own cards using cut-outs, bright felts and old birthday cards. A personalised card is much more appreciated than a shop-bought one. Let the imaginations run wild and make individual cards for special occasions for friends and family.

4 Doodles Your Kids will Love from Your Childhood

There are some doodles or cartoons from your childhood that are timeless classics. Many of the original cartoons are still shown on satellite networks or are available on DVD.

The Pen Company has made a list of some of the cartoons currently making a comeback in the TV lives of our children:

Thundercats

A group of cat-like humans go on heroic quests and fights for survival. The program first aired in the 1980’s. A new series began in 2011 which re-imagined the story but retained many of the characters.

Batman

Batman first appeared in Detective Comics in 1939. He starred in his own comic from 1940. The most recent cartoon is ‘Batman, the Brave and the Bold’ which ran between 2008 and 2011. The show will be replaced by a more serious cartoon entitled ‘Beware the Batman’ due to air in 2013.

Scooby Doo

Scooby Doo first aired in 1969 with ‘Scooby-Doo, Where are You?’ The character usually has four faithful companions: Freddie, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy. The latest incarnation is Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc which brings the characters’ costumes up to date but keeps all the much loved features and in-jokes from earlier cartoons.

Spiderman

The comic first appeared in the 1960’s. Spiderman was the first teenage superhero. He has appeared in a number of TV cartoons. ‘Ultimate Spiderman’, a new cartoon has recently aired during 2012.

Games That Keep Them Busy

I find it very amazing how kids think and act nowadays. It seems like they grow up so fast and before we realized it, they are already teens trying to be independent. So as a mom, I would always spend quality time with them to collect good memories that they could cherish wherever fate would bring them in the future.

If my kids are not busy with school stuff and we do not have other plans for a particular day, they would keep themselves busy looking for best online games. My boys love to play games online. Each of them actually has a scheduled time to play and surf the internet. Discipline is the thing when it comes to this subject.

And if the boys are busy, the little girl would also keep herself busy as well. At an early age she already knew how to open the computer. If I am not that busy with my online tasks, I would let her surf Power Puff Girls online. She is very fascinated by the adventures of Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup. Well, who could blame her? Those girls are really fun to watch as she could somehow relate to them.

I am just so glad that online games keep my kids busy. This will at least give me a peace of mind seeing them just within our place and not somewhere else. As a mom, the most important thing for me is the welfare and happiness of my kids all the time.

The Boys Dream Car - VW Tiguan

Even at a young age, the boys knew already what they like. For them, they fall in love with Volkswagen Tiguan we saw at the Vivo City in Singapore.

Top Animal Films

There are plenty of films featuring both cats and dogs, but a recent poll (of immediate friends and family) have ranked the following as their top five animal films.

Lassie
A book, film and TV Series, Lassie came top of the films poll.  Lassie is based on a real dog called Lassie who was half Collie and saved the life of a soldier during World War I.  Numerous books, films and TV Series were made about Lassie’s heroics.  The first seven Lassie films starred a male collie called Pal, and subsequent Lassie’s were played by descendants of his.  Pal would definitely have been well looked after, no scrimping on the quality of dog food in his house!

Turner and Hooch
Detective Turner adopts the dog of a dead man in order to try and find his murderer.  Hooch is the loveable Dogue de Bordeaux dog, which, incidentally, is one of the eldest French breeds.  This is a classic 80’s film that is still enjoyable to watch now.

Cats and Dogs
The IMDB tag line says it all “A look at the top-secret, high-tech espionage war going on between cats and dogs”.  The humans are close to finding a cure against dog allergies and the cats must do everything to ensure this product doesn’t get out, and the dogs must do everything to stop the cats! This film highlights all the stereotypes of cats and dogs in a hilarious fashion, your dog will love it so settle down with your popcorn and throw your dog a treat and enjoy.

Lady and the Tramp
The great Disney classic had to be in the top five, some rated this film as their number one animal film and it certainly is beautiful.  Classic girl meets boy romantic story just featuring a cocker spaniel and a rough and ready mutt.  No dry dog food in this film but instead a plate of spaghetti and meatballs creating the most memorable doggy kiss scene (possibly only!)

Beethoven
This funny film features one of the largest breeds of dog, the handsome St Bernard.  In the film the dog is welcomed into the family but his vet secretly wants to kill him!  A real family feel good film which is as funny now as it was 20 years ago.

Kitchen Activity in School

My little preschooler will have her first kitchen activity in school. She is requested to bring her own apron and other things.

Thinking of their activity at such a young age amused me. I wonder what they'll going to do.

Personalized Tumblers

I prepared Popoy's 7th birthday for 2 weeks only. I know that is too short for a party to prepare, I used to prepare for around 6 months but for him this time, it took me only 2 weeks.

For the giveaways, I wanted to go to Divisoria to score some deals but didn't have the time so I went to SM Bacoor to check on things. I saw in Toy Kingdom some pillows for Php 100.00 each (USD 2.40) in orange color - Naruto is color orange so I thought this would do the job! I checked the store for availability and they said they have 30 pcs. It was pretty safe then. I went home thinking how to personalize the said pillows. I didn't buy at that time because I will only commute and buying 30 pcs of pillows will be too bulky to commute so I decided to come back the next day with a car.

The following day, came back but instead of going straight to Toy Kingdom, I dropped at Surplus as I spotted a tumbler in copper/orange color. I fall in love the moment I got hold of it. And so I bought it without second thought. Tumbler cost Php 100.00 also.

Then I ordered from Stickerworld the personalized vinyl sticker using their house brand Primecal.

The sticker up close:

After installing the stickers and the thank you note, here are the final giveaway - Personalized Tumblers.

Popoy's 7th "Naruto Theme" Birthday

Popoy is now officially 7 years old boy! He wanted a Naruto theme birthday and happy the threw the party just the wanted he wanted it to be. The only obstacle encountered was that, he wanted to wear the Naruto costume but I wasn't able to find a costume in the malls, not even in online shops. But at least - I was able to find a Naruto t-shirt which turned out to be okay for him.

I originally wanted a Jollibee or McDo party so I dont have to prepare much but he insisted of house party and school party. Its actually more costly but he is the celebrant so in the end, I can only follow.

You may ask - why costly? Simply because you have to prepare 2 sets of food. In school, you have to distribute the exact number of food - for example in Popoys Grade 1 - they are 23 plus 2 teachers. So I have to buy 25 sets of McDo Food.

House party - all of the kids, parents, neighbors and your guests will also come, so you have to prepare a lot of food plus softdrinks and take note - beers and alcoholic drinks too.

While for fast food party, you'll just pay for the party amenities and the food. Besides, not all classmates can come and not all the kids in the neighborhood can attend. Copy?

Anyways, I will post more of the party soon.
